Housing

  • 8 new units (Phase 16) have completed construction.
Education
Current on-reserve programs:
  • Applications for 2008 post-secondary programs (Fall) must be recieved by June 30th.

  • Our First Nation will be offering Nursery to Grade 12 classes in the new school year.
  • Kahkewistahaw had 212 students on-reserve for the year of 2007/2008.
  • The Chief Kahkewistahaw Community School provides a breakfast program for students who are attending.
  • Mature Student Assistance Program assists students in obtaining various trade certificates (ie: Oilfield Safety). If you are interested in these programs, please forward your requests to the education co-ordinator.


Chief Kahkewistahaw School
  • The Chief Kahkewistahaw School was ready for move-in on February 2005.
  • The school contains both elementary and high school wings, which are now fully complete. The Grand Opening Ceremony was held on June 23rd, 2005.
  • The new education center will be constructed to accommodate N-12 classes, with a vision to further accommodate technical trades and university programs.
  • Total project cost was expected to be near $9 million, however the actual cost was $10.4 million.
  • The center has been designed for 160 students.
Community Resource Center
  • The Community Resource Center is now open to the public during working hours. Members may use the center for such things as resumes, internet research, and communication.
  • Education (non-school) staff are based out of this center.
  • There are plans to create a program to help members with resume writing, interview skills, and public speaking.
  • The Community Resource Center offers training programs at various times.

Recreation
General Information
  • If you want your child to participate in these events, a permission slip is required. You can obtain one at the front desk of the Band Office or by downloading the slip by clicking here.
  • Youth Center soon to come online. Watch for postings.
  • Watch for monthly postings at the band office.
Economic Development
Property Development - Yorkton
  • Demolition of the mall has been completed. And construction has started on the new Painted Hand facility
  • Stay tuned for an update on this project.
Round Lake Fresh Produce
  • Established in the Spring of 2002
  • Primary focus of potato production, including seed potatoes, as well as potatoes for the fresh-pack and for processing.
  • Has 2 full-time employees, and 8 - 11 seasonal employees.
  • Planted field for this year is at 142 acres. Overall land base is several times larger, however it is rotated with various other farmers.
  • Growing 80-day variety potatoes (Reds)
  • Planting was completed on June 22nd, with some delays due to heavy rain.
  • West field (60 acres) planned to become operational in 2006.
  • Canola added in to recover a portion of farming (input) costs. This should also provide fertilization to the soil for next year's crop.
  • Acres that were reduced due to rainfall should translate into 100% sales of all potatoes.
  • Round Lake Fresh Produce plans to become one of the first companies to brand and market potatoes under a First Nations label in western Canada.
