After completing his high school in 1987, Michael attended the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College (SIFC) working toward a degree in Indian Education. In 1989, Michael switched his major to Physical Activities Studies (PAS). It was during his third year of PAS, that Michael was asked to run for council.
During Michael's terms he has had several portfolios including: Education, Recreation, Economic Development and Land Claims, in addition to his current portfolios.
Michael has resided on reserve for most of his life. He only left to seek an Education and venture out into the world traveling but has always came back 'home' to Kahkewistahaw. Michael currently resides with his two daughters Alicia and Jessica as well as with his wife Melinda.
