The Kahkewistahaw First Nation is seeking a highly enthusiastic committed individual to fill the position of Housing Coordinator. The successful individual will work under the immediate supervision of the Housing Portfolio Councillor with overall accountability to the Kahkewistahaw Chief and Council.

The duties and responsibilities of the successful candidate include and may not be limited to the following:

  • To maintain records on all housing on the Kahkewistahaw First Nation, including RRAP, HASI, and CMHC
  • Maintenance and enforcement of all rental contracts/agreements for both CMHC and Band Housing which includes the Move in and Move out inspections.
  • Provide Comprehensive reports to the Funding Agencies; the Housing Committee; The Chief and Council and Band Membership meetings on a regular scheduled basis.
  • Continuous data entry for each unit/family dwelling on the First Nation in order to maintain the Data Base System Requirements.
  • Administer the process; procedure and construction of the new housing projects from start to final inspection while maintaining the requirements of the existing housing.
  • Administer the daily operations of all aspects of the housing department from ordering material to delegating the required renovations and/or construction; this includes a final visual inspection of all completed work prior to engaging the final compliance inspectors.
  • Develop and maintain a schedule of preventive home maintenance tasks; ie: pump outs; furnace cleaning etc.
  • Annual Budget preparation.
  • Job and material estimating.
  • Prioritizing and scheduling of work orders and renovation schedules.
  • Preparation of tenders and contracts for approval by Chief and Council.
  • Monthly review the financial statements with Finance personnel to ensure all expenses are properly coded.
  • Develop a management plan
  • Working in conjunction with the Committee and the Lands Department; develop a five year capital plan pertaining to Housing and infrastructure.
  • Assist in the development/revising of all policies pertaining to housing and ensure the adoption and compliance of these policies.
  • Compile all existing plans, projects and policies and organize them to complement the Capital and Management Plan.
  • Develop and establish training programs pertinent to the housing and renovations program.
  • Assist Membership with the housing application process.
  • Any other duties as assigned.
  • Comply with protocol and procedures as prescribed by the policies of the program.

The successful Candidate shall possess the following Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Some post secondary training or relevant work experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must possess the ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Must possess the ability to work in a team atmosphere.
  • Must possess effective supervisory skills.
  • Must possess knowledge of working with a data base.
  • Must possess excellent organization skills
  • Must have the ability to effectively work with the public, Chief and Council, fellow employees and most importantly the general membership.
  • Should have experience in general office procedures.
  • Must possess working knowledge of various computer software including: Spreadsheets; graphs; word processing; e-mail and internet.
  • Knowledge of First Nation Culture; Tradition and Language is a definite asset.
  • Must be punctual, dependable.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and a reliable vehicle.
  • Must submit a current Criminal Record Check and Illicit Drug test by a certified Physician
